About the Newcomers and Alumni Club
The objective of the Newcomers Club of New Bern is to help newcomers integrate into their new community by providing opportunities to meet other newcomers, provide opportunities to socialize, to learn about local and regional resources and history; and to identify ways of contributing to the life, vitality and organizations both charitable and civic in the New Bern area.
The Club is open to individuals within their first year living in the New Bern areas. The Club operates under the premise of a three-year membership. This allows the Club never to become "closed" because of size. As the third year of Club membership draws to a close, members transition to the Alumni Group.
The Alumni Group is for Newcomers who have completed their third year and wish to "graduate" and continue to socialize in-group activities. The Alumni Group is open to community members who have not participated in the Newcomers Club. Both groups publish a monthly Newsletter which is delivered electronically through their websites. The Alumni Group does not have monthly meetings, but does have many planned events throughout the year, accessed through their website.
The Newcomers Club general membership meeting night is the second Wednesday of each month from September to May. The December meeting is a Holiday Party and a year-end picnic in June. We offer activities, such as Photography Group, Book Club, Mexican Dominoes, Outdoors Adventures, Knitting, Boating, Golf and a monthly Wine Social.
Our monthly membership meetings offer overview introductions to civic and cultural services and events as well as activities in the region. The meeting affords a time for socializing and meeting new neighbors.
We look forward to seeing and meeting you at an activity or membership meeting in the near future!
